Description

This is a two-day event - January 29 and February 25, 2019.

English Language Arts is a vital backbone of learning science, as reading, writing, and discourse are central to sense-making about the world around us. To solve the problems of tomorrow, we need all students to invest in understanding their relationship to our climate and to see themselves as active, empowered citizens of our world. In this two-day workshop, we will investigate how first-hand knowledge and experiences with climatic events put migrant students in a position to lead in learning about climate science. During the first day of this workshop, participants will learn strategies that support practices for inclusion, empowerment, and participation in climate science and literacy learning. During the second day of the workshop, participants will come together to share student artifacts and to learn from each other's experiences engaging students.

ClimeTime is a statewide initiative of the Washington Governor, the Washington State Legislature, OSPI, and the Association of Educational Service Districts (AESD). Participation is paid for by the Washington State Legislature’s 2018 Climate Science Proviso. Districts will be reimbursed by Northwest Educational Service District for substitute release time.
