Description
Course Description: School Based and Early Intervention Occupational and Physical Therapists are required to support the sensory-motor needs of students whose disabilities interfere with their development and function in schools or at home. Professional Development is required to maintain licensure and to ensure students are receiving therapy based on best practices and evidence based research.
Purpose: The purpose of this meeting is to facilitate meaningful collaboration and professional development opportunities to Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists who provide services within school districts and homes across our ESD. Professional Development will include: Collaboration with other motor therapists as we explore and share standardized and non-standardized assessments and screens.
Need: OTs and PTs will have the ability to purchase clock hours through the ESD for this course. OTs and PTs are required to obtain clock hours/CEUs. Further, many OTs and PTs across our ESD do not have many opportunities to collaborate with other professionals in their field. This meeting will allow for the opportunity to learn from our colleagues.
Outcomes: In addition to obtaining clock hours/CEUs necessary to maintain certification/licensure, OTs and PTs will have a better understanding of the following:
- Learn to use and understand the pros and cons of standardized and non-standardized assessments and screens for motor therapists to use.
- Gaining perspective and wisdom in the field of educational/early-intervention motor therapy through collaboration with other motor therapists
