Description

This professional development will focus on high school math content as identified in the Washington State K–12 Learning Standards for mathematics to support student success on the Smarter Balanced assessment. This workshop has a content focus on quadratic functions and a pedagogical focus on the implementation of instructional routines that promote mathematical reasoning and student discourse. Teachers will explore quadratic functions through rich tasks, and they will have the opportunity to experience, analyze, and learn to implement productive instructional routines and strategies that they can incorporate into their mathematics lessons and units.

Event Notes

Mathematics Professional Development for High School Teachers Every school district in Washington is eligible to receive state-funded math professional development for high school math teachers in the 2015–2016 school year. This funding is provided by the Washington state legislature through the 2015 Budget Bill ESSB 6052. Funding for teacher participation will be available to districts from OSPI to support substitute reimbursement OR to compensate teachers for six hours of professional learning time through apportionment.

Upon completion of the course teachers will receive a certificate verifying attendance to be used by the school district to request compensation from OSPI.
