Description
This course will focus on cultivating a vibrant and productive view of mathematics for young children. We will share meaningful ways to engage children in mathematics through the everyday activity of reading aloud stories. When we approach children's literature with a mathematical lens, a process we call "mathematizing," stories become an avenue for finding wonder and joy for mathematics. We will share a process for mathematizing children’s books, with examples from specific titles, and think together about how to open up opportunities to support young mathematicians as well as readers and writers.
