Description

How is it possible for programmers/coders to learn and know SO MANY LANGUAGES? How can non-programmers learn how to code without years of computer science education? Learning to code is NOT as difficult as learning multiple human languages--there are a couple of mindsets that, once learned, allow students to easily adapt to different coding environments and create actual, real apps. Using railroading as a fun (and remarkably accurate) analogy to how a computer works, participants will learn the mindset of coding, then apply the mindset to create actual code you’ll test, debug, and demo to colleagues. Teachers will leave this class with a stronger background in what coding is and can do.

Prerequisites: This class is intended for teachers who wish to increase their background knowledge about coding and programming. Secondary teachers intending to incorporate computer science concepts into their curriculum will find this class most directly applicable. No previous programming knowledge is necessary to take this course, though beginner-level experience with HTML/CSS, Code.org, Scratch, or block programming may be helpful. Bring your laptop or use our Chromebooks.
