Description
The purpose of this training is to increase ones knowledge, awareness and skills in identifying students at risk of suicide and how to assist students in need of help. The training reviews both the school and school staff roles in youth suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. Content includes policies and procedures; skills for identifying, exploring, and intervening in signs of suicidal thinking; communication with students’ families about depression and suicide; laws and ethics around confidentiality and reporting; and how to support other youth after a suicide loss. The training is recognized by the Suicide Prevention Resource Center’s Best Practice Registry.
This is an approved course that meets the requirement for a continuing certificate or the professional certificate (WAC 181-79A-221) for School Counselors, Psychologists, Nurses, and Social Workers.
