Collaborate with school district educators and administrators; College of Education and STEM faculty and university education and STEM students to:

  • Analyze best practices in STEM learning for specific groups of learners
  • Deepen understanding of culturally responsive teaching
  • Examine your own knowledge, beliefs, identities, and biases about STEM learning
  • Use a systems approach to identify barriers to implementing and sustaining best practices in STEM learning
  • Use design thinking and the engineering design process to optimize STEM learning for specific groups of students

Topics to be covered:

  • How to uncover bias and stereotype in STEM instruction
  • Strategies to support Culturally responsive teaching
  • Using Targeted Universalism to restructure STEM education in equitable ways

Leave with a deeper understanding of the shifts required for effective STEM learning in K-12 and in pre-service preparation, and with ideas for how to move their own practices and advocacy forward in meaningful ways.
