This event is for Olympia School District employees only.

This book study will require 5 hours of independent reading and one hour of group discussion. The intended participants are high school staff including teachers, paraeducators, special education staff, counselors, and administrators.  Attendees may be paid for their time by using self-directed or principal directed staff development hours.  


Event Notes

Independently read "Classroom Instruction That Works with English Language Learners" by Jane Hill (books provided by the EL Program).

Group discussion on Thursday, May 3rd from 3:00-4:00 is required to earn a total of 6 staff development hours. Clock hours are not being offered for this session.

Objectives:  Participants will learn

1) Practical, research-based strategies to support language development for ELLS and non-ELLS.

2) Accommodations that keep language from being a barrier to classroom instruction.

3) How to make classroom instruction more effective and comprehensible to all students.
