Description

The role of the Special Education brings with it a complexity of function beyond that of other Education staff.  This includes:

  • Working with a range of professionals and family members to design and deliver “Specially Designed Instruction” to students receiving services in both General Education and Special Education settings,
  • Management of a complex system of documentation focused on compliance with State and Federal Regulations and measuring individual student achievement within a range of contexts,
  • Managing classified staff as they provide support to individual students,
  • Collaborating with Instructional Staff across grade levels and subject matter,
  • Coordinating with a range of district Special Education programs and services.

In this class we will focus on the skills necessary to manage this complex role.  Skills that we will focus on will include:

  • Building and maintaining a strong team of adults serving children and families,
  • Skills and Strategies for supporting the success of others,
  • Managing and effectively engaging conflict that inevitably shows up on teams,
  • Integrating health, wellness, and self-care into your practice.
