Description
Day 1 - Writing Effective Transition Plans - This interactive workshop is designed to ensure that students with disabilities receive the services and supports necessary to pursue their post-school expectations. Participants will explore the six components of transition and examine current IEPs to determine the presence or absence of transition services. Special Education administrators, teachers, school psychologists, and related-services staff are encouraged to attend. School districts should also invite their high school DVR counselors to participate. Please bring a completed secondary (transition) IEP to the workshop. It does not need be written by you, and it will not be shared with other participants.
Day 2 - Student Led IEPs - This training focuses on the importance of student engagement in the IEP process and steps for developing student skill sets, focusing on self-determination. Participants explore supporting instructional materials that can be infused into existing curriculum, identify participation formats to support students in leading their meetings, and develop a plan for next steps in their district(s).
Day 3 - Developing Job Shadow Experiences - This training, designed for special-education directors, transition specialists and teachers working with transition-age youth with disabilities, will focus in creating meaningful job shadow experiences, from preparing students and finding sites through on-site supporting to follow-up activities. The day’s activities and take-away lessons will be collaboratively planned and delivered by ESD 113, Center for Change in Transition Service (CCTS), Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and Morningside.
