Description
We are currently facing one of the most polarized times in recent history and issues related to diversity are at the core of this polarization. In the education system we feel this divide in the community we serve as well as our schools. Beginning to understand and address the complex problems that arise from these times is very sensitive yet at the center of our mission as an education system. How do we begin to start these challenging conversations that need to happen in order to move our system forward? How do we talk about making sure diversity, equity, and inclusion are practiced in our districts?
In this full day workshop, Dr. Brett Kuwada will introduce his model called Cultural Humility Empathy & Compassion. This model is derived from the current body of knowledge centered on Cultural Humility (Tervalon & Murray-Garcia, 1998). Dr. Kuwada’s model expands upon Tervalon & Murray-Garcia’s to help individuals utilize the foundation of Cultural Humility in everyday interactions. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the concepts of Cultural Humility, and Cultural Humility Empathy and Compassion (CHEC) and learn valuable tools to apply these methods in a district setting.
