Description

The OSPI-ESD 2021 Fall Improvement Outreach is an opportunity for OSPI and ESDs to provide professional learning, key technical assistance, and critical conversations in continuous systems and school improvement for districts and schools identified for Comprehensive and Targeted (Tier II) supports.

This year’s outreach will pertain to Culturally Responsive Education & Pedagogy, where we will dig-in to resources and information on how to use and apply its principles and components (especially in Academic and Student Well-Being Recovery planning, as well as School Improvement Planning). We will identify culturally responsive and SEL supports to enhance school climate, as well as introduce and explore the concept of “equity checks” and methods to encourage their ongoing use in planning and implementation processes.

We will also provide options for the second part of the three hour event.  The first option will be a presentation by our keynote, Dr. Kenjus Watson, of The Howard Group, who will address our improvement community and provide more depth to the previously mentioned concepts.  The other two options will be facilitated by NEWESD 101 staff and will give focused team time to continue the alignment of your school’s SIP to the Recovery Plan OR time to assess the initiatives happening in your school and/or district to build a cohesive plan of implementation.

Event Notes

Please, bring to the following documents to the Outreach on the 28th:

  • A copy of your school’s School Improvement Plan (SIP)
  • A copy of your district’s Academic and Student Well-Being Recovery Plan

Additionally, please explore the PBIS Cultural Responsiveness Field Guide, as many of our conversations will center on this guiding document. We will also provide it on the day of the event.

The event is required (per iGrants assurances) for schools identified as comprehensive, comprehensive low grad, targeted 3+, or targeted EL progress. As far as those individuals asked to attend, we are inviting individuals in building and district leadership, and those who are involved in leadership conversations regarding continuous systems and school improvement.
