Description
This workshop starts with a synchronous 30-minute Zoom meeting to kick off the workshop and make sure the participants are comfortable with the two virtual platforms (Zoom and Teachable). Then, participants will have one week to complete the Introduction to Argument-Driven Climate Science online course in a Learning Management System called Teachable. This course is asynchronous and self-paced. It consists of eight modules and includes an e-book. Each module focuses on a stage of the instructional model and includes one or more videos about how the instructional model works and classroom examples of it in action.
The workshop facilitator will then synchronously demonstrate how to guide learners through a climate-related investigation in Zoom. The facilitator will stop between each stage of the model to foster a discussion about issues that teachers need to keep in mind to facilitate learning during that stage of the model. The participants will have an opportunity to discuss ways to support student sense-making during these investigations. The workshop facilitator will guide the participants through the process of creating NGSS-aligned instructional materials using this instructional model during the last day of the virtual workshop.
