Description

Somethings are just made for each other like, in education, the peanut butter and jelly of effective instruction is teaching language and content. They mutually enhance the learning of one another. When learners study rich and complex concepts as they learn how to explain their thinking, support claims with evidence, narrate and describe how things are related, they also acquire a greater understanding of complex ideas. In this course, participants will learn which instructional strategies effectively teach different language functions across content areas. The four Key Language Uses (KLUs) in WIDA provide the blueprint for the language functions and the instructional strategies for Project GLADĀ® are the tools that are used to balance the teaching of content with language. Participants will become more familiar with using the WIDA Framework to plan and differentiate language instruction. Through observations and a guided planning process, participants will not only refine their instructional routines, but they will also deepen their understanding of how the WIDA Framework can be used in planning instruction using the Key Language Uses.
