Description
nPower Teachers is a STEM teacher externship that partners with local businesses to learn from professionals about the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their industry. This year we will explore in-demand careers that intersect with climate science. Teachers visit the business for half a day, and spend the second half adapting career-connected classroom activities to engage their students in STEM and career awareness with ESD staff.
In December, we partner with Silicon Forest to explore careers in the electronics manufacturing industry. We will tour the facility to learn about the different careers and pathways in this particular industry (production assemblers and technicians, machine operators, solderers, test technicians, manufacturing and process engineers). Participants will be able to learn about the problems that these professionals solve on a daily basis and the skills they need to be successful. We will also observe the high tech tools used by Silicon Forest to create some of their products which are used for a variety of purposes (aerospace, unmanned systems, medical, and industrial). “
-Substitute costs to districts will be reimbursed to the first 25 teachers.
- This session will meet at Silicon Forest, break for lunch (on your own) and reconvene at the Columbia Bank
