Description

Why is academic language so important for ALL our students?  This session will explore different social, cultural, and educational reasons as to why academic language is needed by K-12 students to succeed in school.  There will be opportunities to learn about and share understandings of the different dimensions of academic language going beyond vocabulary.  This will include reviewing different strategies for enhancing the teaching of academic language across grade levels and content areas.  

Event Notes

The book Academic Language in Diverse Classrooms, by Margo Gottlieb and Gisela Ernst-Slavit, will be included in the course fee! Please enter and exit through the conference center doors. Also, the conference rooms can become chilly at times, wear layers to ensure comfort.
