Description

This workshop event is the kickoff of our 2018-19 nPower Teachers in STEM program. During the introductory session, we will highlight research and practices that support students from non-dominant populations in STEM subjects (girls, students in special education, alternative education, ELL, ethnic minorities, gifted and students in poverty). The second portion of the day will highlight the nPower Teachers program for 2018-19, and how districts can engage their teachers.

nPower Teachers is a STEM teacher externship that partners with local businesses to learn from professionals about the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their industry. In 2018-19 we will explore agencies that focus on climate science. Teachers visit the business for half a day, and spend the second half developing career-connected classroom activities to engage their students in STEM and career awareness. Protocols for the development of career-connected learning tasks will be shared.

  • Substitute costs to districts will be reimbursed.

  • It is suggested that teachers attend with an administrator. Teams will be provided planning time.

  • Additional materials will be provide
