Description

nPower Teachers is a STEM teacher externship that partners with local businesses to learn from professionals about the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their industry. In 2018-19 we will explore agencies that focus on climate science. Teachers visit the business for half a day, and spend the second half developing career-connected classroom activities to engage their students in STEM and career awareness. Protocols for the development of career-connected learning tasks will be shared.

In June we will partner with the Mount St Helens Institute and other regional organizations to explore how climate affects ecological succession both before and after the eruption of 1980. We will learn from environmental consultants, geologists, the logging industry, US Forest Service, regional conservation groups and researchers in ecology.

  • Substitute costs to districts will be reimbursed  to the first 25 teachers.

  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

  • There is an optional overnight experience on June 16th for FREE - registration will be sent separately.

  • This session will meet at the Science Learning Center, will consist of hiking/walking and will mostly be held outdoors. Participants will be sent detailed logistics and a waiver the week prior to the event.
