Description
nPower Teachers is a STEM teacher externship that partners with local businesses to learn from professionals about the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their industry. This year we will explore in-demand careers that intersect with climate science. Teachers visit the business for half a day, and spend the second half adapting career-connected classroom activities to engage their students in STEM and career awareness with ESD staff. Opportunities for engaging your students in Flipped Internships will also be shared.
In October we partner with Mackay Sposito to explore careers that cross the market sector of energy (transmission, distribution, system design), public works (transportation, community and recreation projects), and land development (residential, commercial and industrial[1] ). We will learn from land surveyors, engineers, construction managers, landscape architectures, permitting specialists, and UAV pilots about the problems they solve, the skills they need and how to ready students for in-demand jobs.
-Substitute costs to districts will be reimbursed to the first 25 teachers.
- This session will meet at Mackay Sposito, break for lunch (on your own) and reconvene at ESD112 at 12:30pm.
