I.D.E.A.L. Science Methods for the Elementary Classroom (STEM)

I.D.E.A.L. Science Methods for the Elementary Classroom (STEM)

June 27-30 2022 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Presenters

  • Dale Croswell

Description

The purpose of the workshop is to raise the confidence level of the elementary classroom teacher in teaching science lessons.  Participants will be taught how to use the "I.D.E.A.L." planning method – developed by the instructor – which will help to empower them to design and implement meaningful science lessons for their students.  In addition, participants will increase their science knowledge base as they experience, create, and learn about low-cost science activities for their classrooms.  It is hoped that participants will also be able to share the benefits of these experiences with their peers when they return to school in the fall.

The I.D.E.A.L. model is applicable to any science lesson at any grade level.  However, due to time limitations and instructor expertise, the areas of science which will be explored include:  properties of matter; laws of motion; light and color; astronomy; chemistry.

The participants will also be introduced to certain examples of technology that can be used in the classroom.

Highlights of the Workshop:

* This workshop offers participants hands-on, practical instruction in science concepts, science activities, classroom technology, and the I.D.E.A.L. Method of implementing meaningful science lessons into the elementary classroom.

* Participants will have the opportunity to work with other elementary teachers, to share ideas, and to practice what is learned.

* 24 STEM-Approved Clock Hours through ESD 112 will be available.
