This BEST Mentor Specialty session focuses on school nurse mentor development. Session curriculum builds on learning from Mentor Academy 101 or Nakia Academy, focusing on school nursing standards, frameworks, scenarios, and tools. Required BEST prerequisites: either BEST Mentor Academy 101 (2 sessions) or Nakia Academy.  

Beginning Educator Support Team (BEST) support novice school nurses in Washington through school nurse mentoring, an element of comprehensive induction, and development and support of school nurse mentors.  The student-centered goal is to improve equitable access to high-quality education for every student in Washington by retaining and supporting novice school nurses.

NOTE:  While not every school district participates in the OSPI BEST program, school nurses from any district who are interested in developing their mentoring skills are encouraged to enroll in this session. Even, if they have not completed the BEST Mentor Academy 101 or Nakia Academy.
