In this Early Numeracy module, we examine what we know about children and how they learn through play. The Operations and Algebraic Thinking module deepens participants’ understanding on how children connect different meanings, interpretations, and relationships with the operations of addition and subtraction. We will engage in hands-on activities that can be easily replicated in the classroom to further develop students’ understanding of each concept.

Early Numeracy: Operations and Algebraic Thinking (PK-3) is one of three Early Learning Numeracy professional development modules focused on teachers of PreK – Kindergarten. The three modules are aligned to the Learning Pathways in Numeracy created by OSPI in 2014. They cover the domains of Counting and Cardinality, Operations and Algebraic Thinking, and Geometry.
