Train the Trainer: Strategies for Facilitating Conversations on Race

June 18-19 2018 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Presenters

  • Caprice Hollins

Description

Through engaging and interactive exercises, you'll learn helpful strategies and tips on how to successfully present sensitive information to a wide audience of learners. You will develop skills to take difficult conversations about race, privilege and power to a deeper level and learn strategies for working with resistance. These skills are valuable for organizations committed to instituting systemic change by training a cohort of internal trainers to provide so that they can provide on-going, culturally relevant professional development for staff. The two-day training will give you time to practice applying the strategies in a variety of scenarios.

Both experienced and novice trainers will learn new tools. However, participants in this workshop should have awareness of their own biases, privileges and internalized oppression, as well as some knowledge of institutional racism and white privilege in the United States. The more personal work you have done to understand these issues, the more you will get out of this workshop as a facilitator.

Each participant will receive a copy of the book co-authored by the trainer Diversity, Equity and Inclusion:  Strategies for Facilitating Conversations on Race.
