Description

Description and Overview of Topics: Come learn with EarthGen in this virtual professional development opportunity designed for teachers in NEWESD and ESD 123. Through asynchronous and synchronous learning, participants will have a chance to authentically engage with activities and experts as they grow their understanding of how climate change has and will impact their community. Analyze and interpret recent climate science data with a climate scientist and lecturer from the University of Washington and progress understanding on the most salient climate change indicators in eastern Washington. Teachers will explore the complexities of wildfires, air quality, and human mobility as exacerbated by climate change and what action they can take with their students.

Teachers will leave this training with increased preparedness to facilitate climate science-focused activities using the science & engineering practices of developing and using models, analyzing and interpreting data and developing explanations and designing solutions. Teachers will learn from professionals in their region who are doing work to combat this climate change impact in an effort to prepare them with resources to spur action in their community.

Teachers will receive a $200 stipend and 10 free STEM clock hours upon completion of the entire STEM Seminar.

In-Person Field Experience [Optional]: Teachers will also be invited to an optional in-person field experience. These experiences are developed and facilitated in partnership with the Department of Fish & Wildlife. Teachers will receive additional details and how to sign up at the start of the STEM Seminar.
