Developing Effective Community Truancy Boards workshops (4-part series) for Okanogan County

Tue, January 10 8:30 AM - Fri, April 14 2017 11:30 AM

Presenters

  • Shelley Seslar

Description

This four-part workshop series will prepare district teams to implement effective Community Truancy Boards (CTBs), assuring compliance with HB 2449, and meeting requirements of the 2016-17 MOU for NCESD Truancy Intervention & Re-Engagement (TIRE) Services.  CTBs are intended to reduce the number of truant students needing court interventions, returning them to school attendance sooner and more sustainably.  Poor attendance is an early warning indicator of future drop-out and can be the first contact youth have with the court system.  CTBs are considered effective interventions to removing barriers to attendance and to interrupting the school-to-prison pipeline effect.  North Central ESD has formed this partnership with courts and districts because we recognize that working effectively together to maximize CTBs will strengthen student graduation rates and welfare in our communities.

Event Notes

NOTE:  Only staff from districts that have signed a 2016-17 TIRE Services MOU are eligible to attend this training series.  If you are unsure whether your district has done so, please contact Shelley Seslar at shelleys@ncesd.org.  Please only attend the workshop series for the County in which your district is located.  This training is FREE due to state grant funding from OSPI.  Only coffee, tea, and water will be provided.
