Description
For both the inexperienced teacher in their first classroom and the experienced teacher facing increasingly difficult student behaviors, the management of the classroom is on on-going pursuit. This round table, facilitated by Principal Jack Schneider, will hone in on particular strategies, attitudes, and practices that successful teachers use in order to get the maximum instructional time out of the student day. Our round-table discussions will center around specific challenges in the classroom including room arrangement, the words we use, eliminating distractions, complete and engaging lesson plans, classroom management structures, along with rewards and token economies. Then, after looking at what the teacher has control of, we will focus on the students themselves and look at individual and group strategies, targeting specifc behaviors, and helping children learn to self-manage their behavior. The third part of the course will deal with intervention and respite models within schools.
