Description
Professional Learning Communities
“The core mission of education is not to ensure that students are taught, but to ensure that they learn. When a school staff takes that statement literally – when teachers view it as a pledge to ensure the success of each student – profound changes begin to take place” (DuFour). The purpose of our Learning Team will be to gain a deeper understanding of how to ensure students learn through the Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) process and structure.
Our work as a team will include:
· Considering the core ideas behind PLCs.
· Considering the impacts when a school functions in a true PLC.
· Examining the gap analysis of IMS in comparison to the ideals of a true PLC.
· Considering structures and organization of our school day that may need to change if we are to implement PLCs.
The outcome of our work will be to recommend to the Islander staff timelines, structures and staff training if appropriate that support PLC implementation as it fits within a Multi-Tier System of Support for all students.
