Description
Here’s what it is: A book study that focuses on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) through the lens of equity. Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zaretta Hammond suggests using a neuroscience framework to engage and optimize student learning. There will be pre-reading activities, 8 chapters of reading, and discussions driven by the following questions:
- Activating and Engaging: How are the elements of CRT connected to IMS’s areas of improvement this year?
- Exploring and Discovering: What meaning do we make of this reading as we discuss and dig into our teaching practice?
- Integrating and Operationalizing: As we push and shape our practice together, what are our next steps as we plan for next school year?
Here’s why you should join us: If you are looking for some “aha” moments of insight to get over the learning obstacles you face every day, this book is for you. Don’t fall into the same old traps! Let’s have a little fun with the amygdala and neuroplasticity in ways you didn’t think were possible, and don’t worry--we won’t overdo the wiring details. Culturally Responsive Teaching is Social Emotional Learning and is needed in every classroom with every student, so the book couldn’t be more relevant. Join us.
