Energy Matters: A Virtual Bioregional PD Event with WGS

For secondary teachers

Tue, June 16 2020 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Presenters

  • Nayiri Haroutunian
  • Becky Bronstein

Description

Where does our energy come from? Is there a connection between our community's energy use and the changing climate? How can students take action around energy in their schools to reduce their impact on the environment?

Utilizing Washington Green School's proprietary carbon calculator tool and Energy Matters program, teachers of secondary students will have the opportunity to explore activities that showcase NGSS Science and Engineering Practices (analyzing and interpreting data, constructing explanations and designing solutions, engaging in argument from evidence for example) while exploring Washington-specific data on energy consumption and the local implication with climate change. Teachers will be introduced to a powerful tool that can help them calculate with their students any carbon offsets from various energy-related projects that can be conducted at home or school.

2 STEM clock hours from WGS after completion

Event Notes

Registered participants will need a laptop/computer with a camera and sound. Upon completion of the ZOOM call, participants will receive 2 STEM Clock Hours from WGS.
