Participants in this workshop will review the cycle of risk management and response. This process includes a large focus on prevention strategies as well as de-escalation techniques. Post crisis follow-up is also a necessary task of risk management and response. The ethical considerations and use of physical interventions is also taught for use as a last resort in order to maintain safety. The focus of this workshop will be on avoiding the need for the use of physical safety techniques in order to manage risk safely and effectively. Participants completing this course will receive a two-year recertification.

Full refund of NEWESD 101 registration fee, less $10 administrative fee, is available if your cancellation is received 5 days prior to the first class. Full refunds will be issued if the courses is cancelled by NEWESD 101.

1. At this point in time, we are focusing on providing recertification trainings due to the large need caused by COVID last spring. We will begin integrating initial certification courses for both Elements and Advanced into our course offerings this December 2020;
2. We cannot certify attendees of Zoom trainings in all of the physical safety techniques (only the ones that can be done by an individual person, i.e. the personal protection stances and such);
   1. The rest of the physical safety skills will have to be certified in person once we are allowed to do so in the late spring 2021;
3. There is a 6 month grace period (per RR) that applies if a participant’s certification lapses, but we hope to be able to catch everyone up in the spring.
