Preparing our students for the high-level skills required on the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) Performance Task Full Write does not need to be “test prep.” In fact, preparing our students for these tasks affords teachers a wonderful opportunity to provide their students with rich learning experiences that deepen their reading, writing, and research skills. This course is designed for participants to grow their understanding of the connection between the SBA Performance Task and their grade-level literacy standards. Time will be spent analyzing a variety of informational/explanatory, opinion/argument, and narrative performance task items to understand the high-leverage instructional strategies and resources necessary to prepare our students to do their best on these types of literacy tasks.
