In this engaging workshop, Barry Hoonan will share excellent lessons, writing unit ideas and mentor texts that truly inspire great student writing and voice. Participants will learn how to: (1) launch a writing unit with mentor texts; (2) apply specific writing strategies to help students elaborate; (3) develop effective writing units for teaching different text types; (4) organize effective small group and one-on-one conferences; and (5) celebrate and share student writing. Time will be provided to plan writing units for the year in a collaborative workshop model. Teachers will walk away confident in creating a powerful writing workshop focused on lifting a growth mindset in their student writers.
