Emerging Issues in School Safety

Mon, May 13 2019 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM

Presenters

  • Dr. Amy Klinger
  • Amanda Klinger, Esq.

Description

Ensuring the safety of the children in their care is the primary mission of all educators. Yet sadly, it is also an area where educators often feel largely unprepared or have received little training.

This timely presentation engages participants in an exploration of the emerging issues in school safety and the critical questions facing school leaders today:

·How can we prevent violence in schools?

·How do we effectively respond to a variety of crisis events?

·How do we identify, assess, and manage students who pose a threat to themselves or others?

Is our active shooter response effective and in compliance with new FEMA and Department of Education recommendations?

The vital areas of crisis response, violence prevention, bomb incident management, parent reunification, and lockdown enhancements will be explored in an interactive fashion from an educational perspective using research-based content. More importantly, participants will be given a variety of effective, low-cost best practices in these areas that can be implemented in all schools.
