Description
We don't teach content, we teach kids. Focusing primarily on teaching content and testing knowledge is an incomplete education. We need to focus on educating the whole child. Content is important, but I would argue that relationships are more important. Many hiring managers would rather hire character and train skill than the other way around. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) supports students in becoming the best people they can be. SEL is not another thing to add to the plate...it IS the plate. We need to build positive relationships with every student and create an environment at school where kids are supported in developing both content knowledge and emotional intelligence. Teaching is hard, but growing up is harder. School should be a place where all students learn AND feel loved. You will hear what experienced teachers are doing in their classrooms to develop SEL. You will develop a list of activities/routines that you can use in your classroom to enhance the social and emotional learning of your students.
