  • Discuss & apply ideas with colleagues in breakout room
  • Learn about how Washington’s Student Assistance Program uses the Hope Scale to understand students’ progress

Washington’s Social Emotional Learning Standards are more important than ever! Kitsap Strong’s Kody Russell is returning to explore the science of hope and it’s connection to the standards and share with us how they are using the Hope Scale to understand students’ progress. Did you know the Healthy Youth Survey can be used to measure hope and non-academic barriers? We’ll be checking it out and discussing ideas with colleagues from across the state.

Social Emotional Learning 201: Building Hope as a Pathway to the Future     3 PM

Presenters: Bonnie Zimmerman, Kim Reykdal, Kody Russell (Kitsap Strong) kody.russell@kitsapstrong.org, Vicki Collins (Our GEMS & GENTS) vicarie86@gmail.com, Harriette Bryant (Our GEMS & GENTS) harriettebryant2020@comcast.net

  • The importance of building hope for the future with all youth
  • Addressing the impacts of bias & inequity on hope
  • How one mentoring program is building hope for students furthest from educational justice
  • Discuss & apply ideas with colleagues in breakout room

The future is bright! We are striving for an educational system where each student knows they can impact their future. We’re teaming up with Our GEMS & GENTS to learn how they are mentoring students furthest from educational justice to build hope for the future. We’ll be discussing the impacts of bias and inequity on hope and strategies that you can take to the students in your community. You’ll get a chance to learn from our audience and reflect on ways that hope centered pathways can be a game changer for students.

Graduation: A Team Effort (GATE) Equity webinars help growth minded educators and education advocates to learn from Washington districts who are closing opportunity gaps. Using OSPI data and experience from the field, GATE Equity webinars reveal the systems that drive success, an equity focus, and the key strategies that are getting students to graduation.

We offer two distinct experiences that both feature Washington schools doing amazing work! GATE Equity Webinar 101 sessions, in the morning, are based on foundational best practices. GATE 201 Webinar sessions, in the afternoon, focus on a specific strategy from our monthly theme that you can apply to your context. Each webinar is an hour and a half long this year as we’ve added time for our audience to meet in small groups and apply the content to their own context. Our webinars are a great opportunity to learn from people who are trying innovative strategies across the state. If you know other educators that would benefit, please share the following opportunities to friends and colleagues.
