About the Training: Tragic events that impact schools are a common occurrence. Schools must have a plan to address the emotional needs of staff and students. Flight Teams, formerly known as Crisis Response Teams, are comprised of professionals specifically trained to support the administrator and counselors in activities necessary for the school to return to normalcy as soon as possible after an event. Content covered includes Administrative and Organizational Issues, grief, responding to specific events such as suicide, shooting, expected and unexpected death of a staff or student, trauma, Safe Rooms, and compassion fatigue. Checklists and templates are provided.
Course Objectives: As a result of this class, participants will: 1) increase the school or district's capacity to deploy a trained Flight Team; 2) gain understanding and tools to support staff and students experiencing grief, loss and bereavement; and 3) be able to differentiate between trauma and grief and 4) will identify the need for local, culturally-specific resources to refer victims to or include on Flight Teams.
Audience: School, district and community members who are or will be part of their local crisis response or flight team.
