CASTL Summer Institute - Renton

Collaboration for Ambitious Science Teacher Learning

August 7-9 2018 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Presenters

Description

During our three day summer institute, participants will work with teacher leader facilitators to engage as learners in the Ambitious Science Teaching practices (AST).  The AST framework includes the following:  1) planning for engagement with important science ideas; 2) eliciting students' ideas; 3) supporting on-going changes in students' thinking; and 4) pressing for evidence-based explanations.

Participants will experience the process of creating phenomenon-anchored, student-centered learning experiences and will be able to apply that understanding to their own units or to build upon unit starters that currently exist.

To experience the AST practices, we will be focused on the NGSS performance expectations related to climate science.

At the Institute, participants will have an opportunity to sign up to participate in Reflective Planning Days.  We will offer three, one-day events where teachers will deepen their understanding of Ambitious Science Teaching practices and continue to develop their phenomena-based units and their classrooms practices.

Please note that this event is subsidized by a Math-Science Partnership grant. Co-presenters to be announced at a later date.
