The Fundamental Course of Study Course Outline, approved by the Paraeducator Board on January 10, 2018, is the required course framework providers must utilize to create the paraeducator Fundamental Course of Study (FCS). The course outline aligns with the paraeducator standards of practice. 

In alignment with the FCS requirements and HB 1658, the content below will be delivered by Puget Sound ESD trainers. Puget Sound ESD will offer 12 hours of required content. In order to meet the full requirements for the 2019-20 school year, LEAs will be required to provide two additional hours of training.

PSESD will offer the following units: 

• Behavior management strategies including de-escalation techniques
• Cultural identity and diversity 
• Positive and safe learning environments
• Emergency and health safety 
• Technology basics

Target Audience: Instructional Paraeducators who are required to complete the Paraeducator Fundamental Course of Study.

Please note:

• This 3-session training requires a minimum of 35 participants. Participants will be notified by October 8 if the minimum registration is not reached and the training must be canceled.
• Participants are required to attend all three days of training in order to receive the required clock hours for the Fundament Course of Study.
• This training only provides 12 of the 14 required hours of the Fundamental Course of Study. Paraeducators will need to work with their districts to ensure that they receive the two additional hours of training during the 19/20 school year in order to meet the requirements of the Fundamental Course of Study.

Twelve clock hours will be provided by OSPI upon completion of the 3 sessions.

Dinner will be provided on Oct. 22 and 28, and lunch will be provided on Nov. 16.
