An ongoing practicum for teachers involved in Sustainability Ambassadors’ Climate Action Planning Teacher Fellows Program. The Lab is open to anyone else in any subject who is interested. Participants will practice problem-based learning to measurably advance the goals of your city Climate Action Plan as a Living Textbook applied across the curriculum. How would our students engage if they knew they were part of building a classroom, school, or district-wide climate action plan (CAP) that aligned academic standards, career-connected learning, and city performance measures? Participants will be immersed in a series of PBL lesson frameworks, exemplary city climate action plans, and sample student impact projects with the goal of empowering youth voice, agency, and ownership in helping your local city develop and/or implement a Climate Action Plan with measurable targets for reducing GHG emissions and improving equity outcomes.

This engaging and interactive PBL Curriculum Design Lab is part of a year-round series on Educating For Sustainability facilitated by Sustainability Ambassadors.

We will be working with Climate Action Teachers Fellows representing eight different school districts from Pierce and King Counties as well as student leaders from the Sustainability Ambassadors training program.

We will use science to analyze local climate impacts, technology to explore smart city AI applications, data science and math to calculate GHG emission reductions, and the engineering design process to identify local climate solutions including clean energy, green buildings, electric transportation, materials management, tree canopy, and water conservation innovations. 

We will explore social and climate justice advocacy, civics, economics, and human geography to identify the strongest policy frameworks, and community and market innovations for rapidly advancing a sustainable future that works for all. The Lab is an ongoing practicum that convenes teachers, student leaders, and subject matter experts from industry, government, and nonprofit sectors to ensure a rich learning exchange.
