The Fundamental Course of Study Course Outline, approved by the Paraeducator Board on January 10, 2018, is the required course framework providers must utilize to create the paraeducator Fundamental Course of Study (FCS). The course outline aligns with the paraeducator standards of practice. In alignment with the FCS requirements and HB 1658, the content below will be delivered by Puget Sound ESD trainers.

1. Identify the communication skills required for working with team members
2. Explain the importance of decision making as it applies to school-based teams
3. Explain the four stages of developing effective teams
4. Describe questioning strategies which improve performance, productivity and clarify misunderstandings
5. Identify strategies used to initiate and receive feedback regarding student learning and/or personal performance
6. Describe ways to apply conflict resolution strategies

Target Audience: Instructional Paraeducators who are required to complete the Paraeducator Fundamental Course of Study.

This two-hour online training will be held via ZOOM. An invitation with the Zoom training LINK will be EMAILED to registered participants two days prior to the event.

Please note:

• PSESD will notify participants of cancellation one week before training date if necessary.
• Two clock hours will be issued by OSPI upon completion of the course.
• If you are a paraeducator, please talk with your district BEFORE registering for a class at the ESD to support the Fundamental Course of Study to ensure that it aligns with your districts plans for training.
