  • Registration Now Open: ESD 105 School Psychologists Community of Practice

Registration is now open for the ESD 105 School Psychologists Community of Practice: MTSS-Informed Evaluation Systems. Strengthening SLD Identification Through Data, Collaboration, and Systems Change. Washington's approach to identifying students with a Specific Learning Disability is evolving, and school psychologists will play a critical role in connecting MTSS, intervention data, evaluation practices, and eligibility decisions under the new framework. This eight-session Community of Practice is designed to help you get ready, not through another one-off training, but through a sustained, collaborative learning experience with school psychologists from across the region. Across the year, you'll move through the full evaluation process, from understanding the shift away from the severe discrepancy model, to using intervention data with confidence, to building defensible eligibility rationales, to communicating results clearly with families and school teams. You'll leave with practical tools, a regional professional network, and a district-specific action plan for strengthening MTSS-informed SLD practices. Session 1, Launching the Conversation, kicks off the series and sets the stage for the year ahead. Description

MTSS-Informed Evaluation Systems: An ESD 105 School Psychologists Community of Practice

Strengthening SLD Identification Through Data, Collaboration, and Systems Change

Washington is changing how we identify students with a Specific Learning Disability — and school psychologists will be asked to make that change real in classrooms and evaluation rooms across the state. The question isn't whether this shift is coming. It's whether your district — and you — will be ready to lead it.

This eight-session Community of Practice is built for exactly that moment.

Across the 2026–27 school year, Washington school psychologists will come together to move beyond the severe discrepancy model and build the skills, confidence, and collaborative relationships needed to make MTSS-informed SLD evaluation work in practice, not just on paper. This isn't a lecture series. It's a working community where you'll wrestle with real cases, bring your own district's data and dilemmas to the table, and leave every session with something you can use Monday morning.

Session by session, you'll trace the full arc of the evaluation process — from understanding why this change matters, to using intervention data with confidence, to building purposeful evaluation plans, to looking beyond a single score to see the whole student. You'll learn how to weigh the totality of evidence, write eligibility rationales that are clear and defensible, and communicate what you've found in ways families and school teams actually understand. And you won't do it alone — you'll be doing it alongside school psychologists from across the region who are asking the same hard questions you are.

By May, you'll walk away with more than new knowledge. You'll have a concrete, district-specific action plan — and a professional network built to outlast this one series.

This is more than training. It's where the future of SLD evaluation in Washington gets built — we are better together.

Come ready to learn. Come ready to collaborate. Come ready to shape what comes next.
