Description
This is a free, self-paced, asynchronous course developed by OSPI’s Media Literacy & Digital Citizenship Program Supervisor Lesley James and offered by the AESD EdTech Leads from ESDs 101, 189, 123, and 114.
This course is relevant for any K–12 educator, in any role, working with students in any grades. Participants might be educators who are planning to teach Media Literacy and/or Digital Citizenship and want to gain or refresh their familiarity with the range of skills to choose from and the theories behind the instructional approaches they might take. Or participants might just be curious to know more about the content areas of Media Literacy and Digital Citizenship, even if they’re not planning to teach them.
This course consists of five modules that introduce participants to: the definitions of terms used in the course; the evolution of Media Literacy and how it’s responding to the emergence of generative AI; the range of skills encompassed by Media Literacy & Digital Citizenship; and instructional approaches to consider.
Participants are not required to complete every module; clock hours will be awarded based on modules that are completed. Please note that the clock hours are not STEM clock hours.
Access to the Canvas course is provided after registering on pdEnroller. Course work can be submitted at any time before January 29th, 2027.
