Description
Using data to guide decision making is an essential component of a data-informed school counseling program and is also one of the five components of the Washington State MTSS framework. This Community of Practice (CoP) is designed for K-12 school counselors seeking to enhance the way they utilize data as part of their comprehensive school counseling program (CSCP), and as part of a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS). Through the lens of data-based decision making, participants will establish connections with colleagues across the region in this shared work, discuss the ASCA National Model, Fifth Edition, and identify opportunities to align MTSS and a CSCP. A combination of synchronous virtual collaboration meetings and asynchronous reading and reflection activities will be utilized, allowing participants to deeply explore, discuss, and develop data-based decision making practices and resources to support school counseling and MTSS alignment.
For this community of practice, the book, "Making Data Work, Fifth Edition-An ASCA National Model Publication" by Anita Young and Carol Kaffenberger will be utilized during each synchronous meeting, and reading will be part of the asynchronous activities. You must order your own copy of the book, available through ASCA, Amazon, or your preferred seller. Make sure and check you are ordering the Fifth Edition, publication date 2025.
*For participants who attended the School Counseling Community of Practice during the 25-26 school year, this is NOT a repeat of that course. This course will provide new content that will allow you to continue to build your knowledge and work on MTSS and CSCP alignment with an emphasis on data-based decision making.
