Description
The Colville Confederated Tribes (CCT), WA Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) Office of Native Education (ONE), North Central Education Service District (ESD), and Wenatchee Valley College (WVC) are partnering to convene educators across WA state for the John McCoy (lulilaš) Since Time Immemorial (JMLSTI) Curriculum Training.
This professional development model operates on several key educational principles:
Tribal Sovereignty Recognition: All training content and delivery methods explicitly acknowledge and respect the sovereign status of Washington State's federally recognized tribes, ensuring that tribal perspectives remain authoritative and central to the learning experience.
Place-Based Learning: Training methodology emphasizes the importance of connecting curriculum content to local tribal communities and specific geographic contexts, enabling educators to create meaningful, relevant learning experiences for their students.
Inquiry-Based Pedagogy: Professional development models the same inquiry-based approaches that educators will use with their students, demonstrating effective implementation of the curriculum's five essential questions.
Hands-On Implementation Focus: Rather than theoretical overview, the training prioritizes practical, immediately applicable skills and resources that enable confident classroom implementation.
Cultural Responsiveness: All aspects of the professional development are designed to model culturally responsive teaching practices that honor tribal knowledge systems and educational approaches.
This training will include professional development tracks for elementary, middle and high school implementation, as well as administrative level implementation and support.
