Reframing Challenging Behavior

Reframing Challenging Behavior

Fri, November 17 2023 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Presenters

  • Carol Good

Description

The presentation and video portion will share information about the purpose of non-verbal cues in interactions.  There will be a strong focus on brain development and the role of non-verbal cues in emotion regulation.  Information about the link between emotion regulation and the Parent-Child attachment relationship will also be shared.   When children have a trusting relationship with their parents and are able to feel emotionally regulated, they are able to learn and develop to their fullest potential.

Videos will be used as a way for participants to observe the impact on children when they receive responsiveness to cues and when these cues are misread or ignored by parents.  Videos will also be used to discuss the role non-verbal communication has in relation to giving participants information about how parents are experiencing their home visits.

Participants will have several opportunities to work in small groups to practice their observation skills, discuss unique cultural considerations of non-verbal communication, and to consider how they can apply their learning to the families they serve in ESIT.
