Description

In The Imperfect and Unfinished Math Teacher: A Journey to Reclaim Our Professional Growth, Chase Orton invites educators to reconsider how we think about professional learning, mathematics teaching, and our own growth as educators. Rather than viewing professional development as something that is done to teachers, Orton challenges educators to become active partners in one another's professional growth. The book emphasizes professional "flourishment," story-focused mathematics teaching, teacher reflection, collaboration, and creating more equitable and humanizing experiences for students. This asynchronous professional learning course provides educators with an opportunity to read, reflect, examine their beliefs and experiences, and connect the ideas from the book to their own practice.

Participants will explore how their own teaching stories influence their instructional decisions and consider how they can position students as capable thinkers. The course is designed to be completed asynchronously and at the participant's own pace between December 22, 2026, and April 20, 2027.
