Description
This fully asynchronous course provides a comprehensive introduction to the LGBTQ+ community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and other identities). Designed to foster understanding and inclusivity, the course covers essential topics, including foundational terminology, historical milestones, and best practices for creating supportive environments. With a wealth of curated resources and engaging content, this course is accessible to anyone seeking to broaden their knowledge and deepen their connection to LGBTQ+ communities. Participants have the opportunity to purchase 5 Equity clock hours.
This course can be used in response to Senate Bill 5462 for its resources and recommended inclusionary practices.
This course has four parts:
- Module 1 - focuses on terminology and history.
- Module 2 - you will watch the film Beyond the Stonewall: Exploring LGBTQ+ History Through the Smithsonian Archives.
- Module 3 - provides resources to foster gender and LGBTQ+ inclusive environments.
- Module 4 - contains the final assignment asking for you to reflect on your learning and apply learnings to your positionality.
Deadline: Participants must complete this session in Canvas by September 15, 2026. Course attendance is taken on an on-going basis after participants finish, often within 3-5 days, though during rush periods and holiday breaks please be aware it may take up to 2 weeks.
