Description

Are you curious about OpenSciEd and how it can support high-quality, phenomenon-based science teaching in your elementary classroom? This 1.5-hour awareness session is designed to introduce educators to the vision, structure, and key features of the OpenSciEd Elementary instructional materials.

During this interactive session, participants will:

Learn about the OpenSciEd program and how it aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and current research on effective science teaching and learning.

Experience a sample anchoring phenomenon lesson as a learner to better understand how students make sense of real-world science ideas through investigation and discussion.

Explore essential resources and program components, including lesson routines, student sensemaking, embedded supports for diverse learners, and tools that help teachers facilitate meaningful science learning.

Consider connections to their own classroom and school context, with time to reflect and ask questions.

This session is ideal for teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders who are interested in strengthening elementary science instruction and learning more about the OpenSciEd Elementary materials. No prior experience with OpenSciEd is required.

Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of what OpenSciEd looks like in practice and next steps for exploring or implementing the materials in their setting.
