Implementing Collaborative & Proactive Solutions to Reduce Restraint & Isolation

Fri, May 15 2026 8:00 AM - Wed, June 30 2027 5:00 PM

Description

This video course introduces educators to the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model, an evidence-based, relationship-centered approach for understanding and responding to challenging student behavior. Participants will explore the core premise that “kids do well if they can,” shifting from a compliance-driven lens to one that identifies skills and unsolved problems as the drivers of behavior.

Through this video-based learning experience, participants will examine key components of CPS, including the use of the Assessment of Skills and Unsolved Problems (ASUP) and the Plan B problem-solving process. The course highlights practical strategies for implementing CPS in classrooms and school settings, with an emphasis on proactive intervention, student voice, and problem-solving. Data requirements for participation in the CPS OSPI Project are discussed.

Educators will reflect on their current practices and consider how CPS can be integrated into existing systems to reduce challenging behavior, improve student engagement, and strengthen educator-student relationships. The course supports application across a range of roles and settings, with a focus on creating more equitable, effective, and sustainable approaches to discipline and support.
