Description
The Special Education (SPED) Subject Matter Certificate is an advanced online professional learning course designed for paraeducators who support students receiving special education services in Washington's schools. Aligned with the Washington State Special Education Subject Matter Certificate Standards of Practice, this course builds the knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively support diverse learners and promote student success. Topics include special education laws and processes, IDEA and IEPs, culturally responsive instructional practices, positive behavior supports, communication and collaboration, confidentiality, and effective participation on educational teams.
Successful completion of this course fulfills the 20 Hour professional learning requirement for earning the Washington State Special Education Subject Matter Certificate.
This course is hosted by Professional Learning US (PLUS) on behalf of the Washington State Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB).
